PRODUCTION SOUND MIXER, NINA RICE, 2021 HIGHLIGHTS
One of the feature productions to date on which RAs Nina Rice was Production Sound Mixer is ‘Persuasion’.
The film will premiere on Netflix in Summer 2022 and possibly be a cinema release. Production began in May and it is slated to air this year. Based on Jane Austen’s posthumously released novel (former author of Pride and Prejudice and Emma, among others), Dakota Johnson will portray Austen’s lead character in a new adaptation of Persuasion.
Cosmo Jarvis, best known for his role in 2016’s Lady Macbeth and for playing Barney in Peaky Blinders’ fifth season, will play Anne Elliot’s love interest, Captain Frederick Wentworth.
The book was first published in 1817, six months after Austen’s death. It was the last novel Austen fully completed and her most mature work.
The film centres on two characters: Anne Elliot, a 27 year-old, unmarried English woman and Captain Frederick Wentworth, Anne’s former fiancé. The story begins with the pair’s reconnection after seven years apart, when the Elliots lease their home to the Captain’s sister and her husband. It has been recently announced that Succession’s Sarah Snook will play Anne Elliot in a different Persuasion movie.
The Dakota Johnson version, however, will be retold with a “modern, witty approach” and brought to screens by Netflix and MRC Film, while the Snook version will be a more true-to-form period piece from Searchlight Pictures.
The trailer for Dakota’s version is still not available, but we will publish it as soon as it is.
‘This Is Going to Hurt’
is an internationally co-produced drama television series created by Adam Kay. RA’s Nina Rice was the Production Sound Mixer on this series. It is based upon Adam Kay’s memoir of the same name. The series stars Ben Whishaw as a National Health Service employee working through the ranks of hospital hierarchy. He is joined by Dame Harriet Walter, Ambika Mod, Michele Austin, Alex Jennings and Rory Fleck Byrne. The BBC announced the drama in July 2018, but some time passed before production began; filming finally wrapped in June 2021. Now on BBC Iplayer.
‘I USED TO BE FAMOUS’ , IS ANOTHER OF NINA’S RECENT PROJECTS, IN WHICH ED SKREIN AND MUSICIAN LEO LONG PORTRAY VINCE AND STEVIE RESPECTIVELY.
Nina Rice also worked as production sound mixer on two features last year, the second being Netflix’s ‘I Used to Be Famous’, in which Ed Skrein and musician Leo Long portray Vince and Stevie respectively. Skrein is known for Deadpool, Game of Thrones, Alita: Battle Angel and more. Being a neuro-diverse folk musician, Leo Long has experienced and succeeded in overcoming many challenges in music and now acting as well. The film shows a culture-clash between a washed-up pop star and a musically talented young man with autism. Two opposite characters who transform each other’s worlds through the power of music.
Netflix hasn’t set a release date for ‘I Used to Be Famous’, but it should be sometime in the second half of 2022.
